THIS week we start the blog, Diary of a Grieving Husband. Written by therapist Conal Healy, the diary follows the first six months of a grief journey after his wife died. To start the blog, you will meet Anna and Conal. They were high school sweethearts (they met in 1978), who married, moved to Australia in 1988, worked and raised a family.
In June 2016, Anna died of cancer.
To introduce the blog, Wisdom with Whiskers will publish the eulogy that Conal delivered at the funeral for Anna.
Diary of a Grieving Husband begins shortly after this tragic event. The blog begins in July. For weeks after Anna’s death, Conal was unable to put pen to paper because the pain of grief was too much.
The blog is a combination of entries from his diary, his journal, the SMS he wrote and the emails he sent to family and friends.
The entries are – at times – painfully honest. They capture how Conal used many techniques (including humour) to deal with his grief.
To quote Conal: “I am starting a new part of my life, a life without Anna. It will be hard, but I knew this day was coming. I know I am letting go of Anna – my love – and moving on. I just have to get used to this huge feeling of emptiness, the space that was the domain of Anna.”

If you are effected by Conal’s story, contact Wisdom with Whiskers counselling … and talk to them.
